Confused with Landing Gear Side Brace Fitment Bolt P/N 706

I disassembled the gear many years ago and painted many of the fitting parts. Whilst reassembling I note that part 706 which passes under the spar through the half inch hole in part 772-1, slips through the spacer tube part 773, and continues forward to the half inch hole in part 772-2. My issue is at the forward end, part 706 steps down from the half inch rod to the threaded portion to allow for the washer and nut — the half inch rod portion is not long enough to slip through the forward bracket part 772-2. Is this normal? The half inch portion barely rests on the aft face. Should the length be such that it passes into 772-2? As exists now, I can easily fit and tighten the MS21042-5 nut with washer on the threaded end to hold the part, but as the threaded end is much smaller than the half-inch hole, there is no assurance of centering.

What am I missing in my thinking? Maybe there is no issue, as the forward shoulder of part 706 (where part 504-3 is attached) can be held to rest squarely against the face of 772-1 as the nut is tightened against the foreword face of part 772-2. But there is no assurance that at the forward end in part 772-2 that the threaded portion will remain centered in the half inch hole.

I fully recognize the need to shim the hollow spacer tube, but I’m confused as to part 706 fitment with 772-2.

I appreciate anyone’s thoughts. Thanks. Martin

Spoke with my A&P who said just to fabricate a .5 inch OD by 5/16 inch ID by 1/8 inch long steel bushing to keep the screw end centered. My guess is my spar is wider than the supplied shoulder bolt part.
